Bharatanatyam is one of the oldest and most respected classical dance forms of India, originating from Tamil Nadu. Traditionally performed in temples as a form of devotion, it combines expressions (Abhinaya), rhythmic footwork (Nritta), and storytelling (Natya) to depict spiritual themes, usually based on Hindu epics like the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Puranas. The dance is characterized by intricate gestures (mudras), graceful body movements, elaborate costumes, and powerful facial expressions. It is considered both a spiritual offering and a highly refined art form.
