Mohiniyattam is a graceful classical dance form of Kerala. The word Mohini means “enchantress” and Attam means “dance.” Traditionally, it depicts feminine love and devotion, often dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his Mohini avatar. Known for its slow, flowing, and circular movements, Mohiniyattam emphasizes grace, elegance, and delicate expressions rather than vigorous steps. Dancers usually wear white or off-white costumes with golden borders, adorned with simple jewelry and natural makeup, reflecting Kerala’s cultural aesthetics. The dance combines Lasya (graceful movements) with subtle abhinaya (expressions) to narrate devotional and romantic themes.
